윈난은 물가가 싸고, 무엇보다 사람들이 친절하기 때문에, 살기에 참 좋은 지역이다. 하지만, 중국어를 전혀 못한다면 중국인의 순박함도 무용지물. 대부분의 여행객은 베이징 외의 지역에서 어학연수를 하면 사투리를 배우는 것 아니냐고 하는데, 천만의 말씀, 만만의 콩떡 ! 중국의 모든 초중고등학교 및 대학교와 관공서에서는 오직 표준어(普通话)로만 수업을 하기 때문에, 중국어를 배우는 데에는 전혀 문제가 없다. 개인적으로 베이징이나 샹하이 등 한국인 선호지역에서의 어학 연수를 극구 말리고 싶은 이유는 최소 50% 이상, 심지어 일부 학교에서는 90%에 이른다는 한국인 비율 때문. 가면 한국인들은 영어나 일본어가 완벽하지 못하기 때문에, 한국 사람들끼리만 어울리게 되고, 결국은 연수 가 한국어 실력만 엄청 늘어서 돌아오곤 한다. --;

중국의 학제는 우리와 마찬가지로 6 3 3 4이다. 중국에서 따쉐(大学)는 우리 나라의 종합대학교에 해당하는 것이고, 쉐위앤(学院)은 우리의 단과대에 해당하는 것으로, 전국 적으로 수백 수천개의 수많은 학교가 있다. 윈난에서 가장 좋은 대학교는 "운남대학교 云南大学校"로 중국 내에서 20위권에 들 정도로 명문대학교이다. 윈난셩에서 가장 좋은 5개의 대학교는 운남대학교, 운남사범대학교, 쿤밍이공대학교, 운남농업대학교, 민족학원이며, 서울 신촌에 6개의 대학교가 몰려있듯, 모두 省의 수도인 쿤밍의 북쪽에 위치하고 있으며, 모든 학교에서는 비슷한 수준의 외국인을 위한 어학 과정을 개설해놓고 있다.

윈난따쉐 외국유학생 캠퍼스

내가 윈난따쉐(云南大学)에서 처음 어학연수를 하던 2002년 가을에는, 그나마 한국인 숫자가 많이 늘어 전체 학생의 1/4 정도가 한국인이었으며, 윈난셩 전체의 한국 교민은 500여명선이었다. 한국의 유학원에서는 이 지역에 대한 정보가 전무하다시피 하기 때문에, 다들 어떻게 알고 여기까지 온 것인지 매우 궁금하였는데, 나처럼 윈난 여행 중에 이곳이 너무 마음에 들어 다시 공부를 하러 찾아온 여행객 출신(?) 학생도 많았고, 알음알이로 친척과 친지의 소개로 온 사람, 중국 다른 지역에 있다가 소문(?) 듣고 온 사람 등 다양한 이유로 이곳에서 공부를 하는 학생들이었으며, 무엇보다 소수 민족들에게 선교를 하기 위해 온 선교사들도 다수 있었다. 아래의 글은 모두 윈난따쉐를 기준으로 쓴 것들이며, 각 학교별로 크게 차이는 나지 않으나, 좀 더 자세한 정보를 원한다면, 해당 학교의 홈페이지(물론, 중국어로 되어 있고, 간혹 영어로도 되어있다.) 찾아보도록 하다.

중국어를 전공하는 학생이라면, 1년은 공부해야 만족스러운 수준의 중국어를 구사할 수 있을 것이며, 여행을 위한 중국어 학습을 원하는 여행자라면, 수업만 잘 따라간다면 1달만 지나도 기초적인 일상 생활에는 불편함 없을 정도의 중국어 구사가 가능하고, 1학기만 다녀도, 여행하는데에는 그다지 언어가 문제 되지 않을 수준으로 중국어를 잘 할 수 있을 것이다. 윈난 지역의 학생들은 중국어 어학 시험인 HSK의 급수보다는 회화에 더 중심을 두어 학습하는 경우가 많았고, HSK 급수는 없더라도, 중국말은 참 잘 하는 학생들이 많았던 것 같다.

윈난의 대학교 어학연수는 베이징이나 샹하이에 비해, 물가 뿐만 아니라 학비도 매우 저렴하여, 베이징의 학교가 1200$ 선인데 반해 윈난따쉐는 1학기에 700$이다. 기숙사 비와 생활비도 비슷한 수준으로 들어가는데, 대부분의 학생은 한푼이라도 아낄라고 비싼 학교 기숙사를 벗어나 학교 근처에 아파트를 월세로 얻어 살기도 한다. 쿤밍 지역의 아파트 가격은 급상승하였으나, 아직도 시내의 20-30평 아파트 월세가 1000元 정도로, 매우 싼 편이다. 집을 구할 때는 아는 사람의 소개나, 중개업소를 이용하게 되는데, 중개업소에는 1달치 월세를 소개비로 주고, 6개월 혹은 12개월치 월세를 미리 내고 집에 들어가 사는 것이 일반적이다. 대부분의 학생들은 한 아프트에 2-4명이서 동거를 하기 때문에 방값은 더욱더 저렴해 질 것이며, 이 지역의 음식값은 워낙 싸기 때문에, 집에서 하던 밖에서 사먹던 크게 문제가 되지 않는다.

[덤] 중국인 대학생의 등록금은 1년에 3000元 수준으로 400$이 채 되지 않는다. 우리는 매우 싸다고 생각할지 모르나, 쿤밍에서 대졸자 초임이 월 100$ 남짓 수준인 것을 감안하면, 매우(!) 비싼편이다. 중국 학생들은 거의 다 포로 수용소(?)에 가까운 기숙사에 생활하며 학비, 기숙사비와 생활비를 모두 합쳐 1년에 5000~6000元 정도의 비용이 들어간다고 한다.

중국어 어학연수를 준비하고 있는데, 너무 많은 한국인 학생들을 피하고 싶은 사람이라면, 쿤밍의 대학교들이 좋은 대안이 될 것이다. 활동이 활발한 편은 아니지만, 다음 까페에 "운남"으로 검색하면 여러개의 까페들이 잡힌다. 이곳에서 정보를 구하거나,  현지에 유학을 가있는 한국인에게 연락을 취해보는 것이 가장 좋지만, 그냥 가도 괜찮다. 관광 비자로 들어가도 학교에 가면 알아서 다 학생 비자로 바꾸어 주며, 기숙사도 잡아준다. 일단 1달 정도는 현지 적응을 위해 기숙사에서 머무는 것이 좋고, 공부에 목숨을 건(?) 사람이라면, 돈이 조금 비싸더라도, 학교 바깥의 아파트들 보다는 학교 내에 위치한 외국 학생 기숙사에서 지내는 것이 좋다.

윈난 대학교 어학연수 과정 소개 (영어)

윈난대학교 외국 유학생 캠퍼스는 주변에 식당, 옷가게, DVD 가게, 대형할인마트 등이 자리잡은 도심에 자리잡고 있어, 생활하기에는 너무나 편리한 조건들을 두루 갖추고 있다. 체류비에 대해 간략히 소개하자면, 학비는 1학기에 700$이며, 기숙사비는 1달에 2인실을 2명이서 쓴다면105불 정도 들며, 식비는 1끼에 5-10元이면 된다. 대부분의 학생들은 1년간 체류하면서 학비, 생활비, 잡비 모두 합쳐서 500-1000만원 정도의 비용을 쓰게 되는데, 이는 중국 그 어느 지역과 비교해도 가장 저렴한 수준이다. 학기 중에 중국어를 열심히 갈고 닦은 다음에, 노동절, 국경절 등의 연휴나 방학 기간 중국어를 활용하면서 여행을 한다면, 중국이 더욱 가깝게 가슴으로 와닿을 것이다.

학교 소개 : ⅠA Brief Introduction

     YU, founded in 1923, is located at the center of Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province. With favorable natural environment and abundant natural resources, Yunnan is renowned as Kingdom of Animals and Plants, Kingdom of Nonferrous Metals .In Yunnan; there live 25 ethnic minorities, the cultures of which with distant sources and long streams are bright and colourful. Kunming has a pleasant weather without intense heat in summer, without bitter cold in winter. All the four seasons in a year here are spring days, thus being with high praises entitled "The City of Eternal Spring ",famous touristy attraction in China.

     YU is the only comprehensive university in Yunnan that is admitted into the state Project-211, covering disciplines in humanities, science, technology, linguistics and administration; comprising 24 colleges, 3 departments of fundamental curriculums, 52 undergraduate specialties, 3 state bases for training educational researchers, 1 state base for the research of humanities and social science, 1 state open key laboratory (nominated by the Ministry of Education) and 1 state-level center for product research and development. YU has been authorized to grant doctoral degrees of 13 specialties and to grant master's degrees of 50 specialties. Besides, this university has established 3 centers for circulative post-doctoral studies, 1 enterprise affairs station for post-doctoral studies. Among the faculty, there are 244 professors and 395 associate professors. And over 16400 full-time students are enrolled by now.

     YU has been attaching great importance to international exchange and cooperation, which are soundly developed respectively between this university and 79 universities in Europe, America, Australia, Southeastern Asia, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hongkong also.

     The Center, a special institution under Yunnan University, is in full charge of Chinese Language and Chinese culture teaching for international students, including enrolling, teaching, daily administrating and logistic serving. The Center has accepted more than 4000 students from nearly 30 countries and regions since 1986, when Yunnan University was authorized by the Education Ministry of China to be one of first-batch institutions of higher learning in Yunnan Province to accept international students. In recent years, the Center has accepted 450-odd international students each year. The ratio of the number of the students from Euro-American countries to those from Asian countries is one to one.

     In 2001, Yunnan University was honored by the Development Center for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Under the Education Ministry of China to be "one of the Key University Supporting Chinese Teaching in Bordering Countries". And in 2002, the Center has initiated the short-term training course for teachers of Chinese from over the sea (mainly from Southeastern Asian countries), with tuition, board, lodging and observation tours fully funded by Yunnan University and has compiled Chinese textbooks adapted for native teachers of Chinese Language. In the first half of 2002, the Center trained 54 teachers of Chinese Language from the Northern Thailand and Bangkok, free of charge.

     The Center has 14 full-time teachers, 60% of whom hold senior academic titles. A majority of these teachers are experienced in teaching and are used to varied milieus as they have ever taught refresher courses in the U.S., Australia, Italy, Thailand and other countries. The Center also engages about two dozen part-time expert teachers in different subjects.

공부하는 기간 : ⅢCategories of students and period of schooling

     The Center enrolls international students both long and short-term refresher students of Chinese and undergraduates in the subject of modern Chinese at any time all the year round.

1.   Long - term refresher students of Chinese (3개월, 1학기 이상의 장기 연수생)

     Enrollment begins in spring and fall with a more than three-month period of schooling. The spring term lasts 18 weeks from late February to early July. The autumn term also lasts 18 weeks beginning in late August and ending in late December (before Christmas). Students may send in their applications and be enrolled at any time in spring and fall, and in relation to their Chinese proficiency, are free to attend the primary, intermediate and advanced classes, each class accepting around ten participants; they may also choose to learn through the one teacher-one -students approach.

2.   Short-term refresher students of Chinese (단기 연수생)

    Winter holiday classes, summer holiday classes and students group classes are organized for a period less than three months. The winter holiday class starts in late December and completes towards late February, and the summer holiday class starts in late July and winds up in late August. The student group class enrolls all the year round and when to start can be negotiated. The length of schooling time for other short-term training courses can be decided by the students if they can form a class of at least four.

3.   Undergraduates major in modern Chinese (본과 학부생)

     This four -school- year major, which starts in late August each year, recruits international students aged 18 and above with completion of senior school education (relevant certificate needed.). Students may skip grades in line with their HSK results.

4.   Short-term training for teachers of Chinese language from southeastern Asian countries.

     The Center enrolls trainee teachers of Chinese language in various kinds of schools and universities from Southeastern Asian countries. The concerned schools, universities or other organizations of these countries can via Chinese Embassies or Consulates, send the Center the list of names of the applicants who are willing to be trained in the Center. YU will provide the admitted applicants with lodgings and board, free of charge, and tuition is also free of charge. Training period usually lasts one month for each class. When to start training can be negotiated.

커리큘럼 : ⅣCurriculums

1.   For long-term refresher students :

Intensive reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing in Modern Chinese etc.

2.   For short-term refresher students

     A flexible curriculum caters to the needs and requirement of the students, generally, courses of Chinese ABC, speaking, listening as well as special lectures on Chinese culture and the ethnic groups in China are offered.

3.   For undergraduates

Intensive reading, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Ancient Chinese, Outline of China, Chinese History , A history of Chinese Literature, Chinese Culture, Graduation Theses

4.   Optional Course

     Chinese Culture, Outline of China, Chinese History, Chinese Customs, Chinese Idioms, Chinese Ethnic Groups and Religions, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, Magazine and Newspaper Reading, Writing Chinese Characters, Chinese Kongfu (including the shadow boxing), Chinese National Music and Dance, Chinese Cooking (extra fee charged), HSK Guidance (extra fee charged).

5.   Internships and study tours

     Students are, towards the end of each semester, organized to partake in the regularly held "Chinese Evening". Guided by tutors, the students themselves compose, rehearse and perform programs as short acts, cross talks, singing and dancing, etc. whereby the progress in the students is checked. Two cultural travels are organized at regular intervals each semester to have the students drink in local customs and practices, getting an idea of the unique culture of China.

학교 시설 : ⅤTeaching & Living Facilities and Services

     The Center possesses one language lab, one computer room, one library, a reporting room, two meeting rooms and 30-odd classrooms. The Center also provides international students with four apartment-buildings of various standards. Single rooms, double rooms, suite rooms and nearly 380 beds (inside TV set, toilet, bathing room, writing desk, sofa, wardrobe are available) are accommodated and telephones are installed in most of the rooms. Services as international and domestic call, fax, photocopying, tickets booking, inquiry, laundry are provided by the general service desk. Nearby there is an activity center where there are dancing hall, ping-pong room and gymnasium. And there is a canteen that can hold 200 people, offering both Chinese and Western flavors. The Center, which connect the teaching area and living quarters together, boasts a delicate environment: besides shady tress and beautiful flowers, houses with gilded titles red walls give expression of Chinese culture.

입학 과정 : Ⅶ Application procedures

1.        Applicants can obtain the Application Form for Enrollment of International Students to Yunnan University by means of correspondence, E-mail, fax and phone call.

2.        The Filled-out Form and registration fees of $15 should be mailed or faxed to the Center two months prior to the opening of school.

3.        Upon receiving the above items, the Center will mail the applicants or their agents the Entrance Notice and Visa Application Form for Foreign Students to China (JW202).

4.        The applicant forwards the Notice to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country to apply, with Form 202, for X or F visa for entry into China for Study. Applicants who come to China on L visa or other types of visa are required to transfer their visa to X visa and to go through relevant procedures for residence.
